After hearing that Inès Elsa Dalal (photographer behind our First Rate lookbook) was involved in a project documenting the experiences of Asian Youth in Britain, we made the short trek across Digbeth to the exhibition opening earlier this month.
Focusing on three distinct periods between the 1950s and today, the exhibition looks at the lives of young Asians in Britain, including their heritage and influence on British culture.
As well as Inès' portraits (including one of Sheerah Ravindren, who you might recognise from our First Rate collection), there are a number of records on show from Oriental Star Agencies, a record label based in Birmingham whose founders were known for importing Indian and Pakistani music to the U.K.
With our recent Provide Records collection, it was fascinating to see the artwork used for music from the other side of the world, created around the same time as many of the records we referenced in our designs.
Asian Youth Culture is at BCU Parkside Campus until March 29th.
