Flatpack Festival & PROVIDE Cinema

Flatpack Festival is a city-wide cultural event that happens every year in Birmingham, and we were thrilled to be invited to join the programme of events last month. Saturday was Cyclomania, a day for celebrating all things bike-related. There was bike polo with Birmingham Bike Foundry, a Bicycle Basket Bazaar, and PROVIDE Cinema hosted a screening of Bicycle Dreams in the Custard Factory Theatre. The 2009 documentary follows riders in the Race Across America - touted as the most gruelling endurance event in the world, as they battle all terrains, weather, other riders and push their own bodies and characters beyond all conceivable limits. What seems to start as a film about cycling soon turns in to a gripping and challenging exploration of the human condition.

If you weren't able to make the screening, it's well worth tracking the film down; here's the trailer:

Thank you to everyone who helped us pack out the theatre, and of course to Flatpack for letting us get involved! Sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of this page, or follow us on twitter to keep up to date with future PROVIDE Cinema screenings.
